Ángel Miranda explains how to finance a project through crowdfunding in the UAB Planet Cycle

Ángel Miranda , journalist and audiovisual producer, explained how to finance a project through crowdfunding in the fifth session of the UAB Planet Cycle, an initiative of the Gabinete de Comunicación y Educación aimed at students of its master’s degrees.

This cycle of conferences is part of the project “Planet UAB: The journey to the other – equals in differences” organised by the UAB Cabinet during the academic year 2020-2021, with the support of the Solidarity Fund of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, which organised a series of activities and awareness-raising actions based on the concept of the UAB campus as a “planet” and which dealt with major issues such as the culture of peace, sustainability, the environment and interculturality, among others.

Students from the Master’s in Travel Journalism, the Master’s in Environmental Communication and the Master’s in Communication and Education took part in this fourth session with Ángel Miranda. The journalist started in the world of crowdfunding with the comic book Espadas del fin del mundo (2021). His latest project, the novel Carrión (2021), has received a total of 2174 backers and raised a total of 55,764 euros (of an initial requested amount of 6,000 euros). According to the scriptwriter, for the proposals to be successful, they must be different, personal and provide a differential value, whether material or emotional. Likewise, dissemination work is fundamental. By way of summary, he outlined the following fundamental pillars:

  • Professionalism
  • Inclusion of promotional video and images
  • Elaborate description: explanatory, concise, orderly, coherent and attractive.

The writer explained to the students how he approached the crowdfunding of Carrión: from the commissioning of illustrations, the creation of a trailer and a 3D audiobook, the search for a distributor, the preparation of personalised packages and the dissemination on social networks such as Instagram.

Ángel Miranda is a writer and scriptwriter for Carrión , Lezo and Espadas del fin del mundo . He has created content for ICEX, Nintendo, Ford, Toyota and, currently, for Mazda. He is the creator of the most successful crowdfunding for a novel in Spain: Carrión.
