<p>The <strong>Gabinete de Comunicación y Educación</strong> (UAB) inaugurates the <strong>Planeta UAB Cycle of conferences</strong>, a meeting of digital conversations with different experts aimed at students of the <a href="https://www.uab.cat/web/postgrado/master-en-periodismo-de-viajes-presencial-/informacion-general-1206597472083.html/param1-2812_es/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Master&#8217;s in Travel Journalism</strong></a>, the <a href="https://www.uab.cat/web/postgrado/master-en-comunicacion-del-medio-ambiente/informacion-general-1206597472083.html/param1-4342_es/"><strong>Master&#8217;s in Environmental Communication</strong></a>, the<a href="https://www.uab.cat/web/postgrado/master-en-comunicacion-y-educacion-online-/informacion-general-1206597472083.html/param1-2395_es/"><strong> Master&#8217;s in Communication and Education</strong> </a>and the <a href="https://www.uab.cat/web/postgrado/master-en-gestion-de-la-comunicacion-politica-y-electoral/informacion-general-1206597472083.html/param1-1078_es/"><strong>Master&#8217;s in Management of Political and Electoral Communication</strong></a>. The first session, entitled &#8216;<strong>Story seekers. Jungles, jaguars and volcanoes</strong>&#8216;, was given by writers <strong>Sabrina Duque, Joseph Zárate and Santiago Wills</strong>.</p>

<p>This cycle of digital conferences is part of the project &#8220;<a href="http://www.gabinetecomunicacionyeducacion.com/es/noticias/planeta-uab-un-proyecto-para-generar-conciencia-en-la-comunidad-universitaria"><strong>Planet UAB: The journey to the other &#8211; equals in differences</strong></a>&#8221; organised by the Gabinete during the academic year 2020-2021, with the support of the <em>Solidarity Fund of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona</em>, which organised a series of activities and awareness-raising actions based on the concept of the UAB campus as a &#8220;planet&#8221; and which dealt with major issues such as the culture of peace, sustainability, the environment and interculturality, among others.</p>

<p>According to <strong>Santiago Tejedor</strong>, director of the Gabinete de Comunicación y Educación (UAB), these meetings will &#8220;<strong>allow us to talk about the adventure of exploration, discovery and learning that means learning, research and training</strong>&#8220;. They will address issues related to <strong>culture, otherness, health education, the environment, information technologies and interculturality</strong>, among others.</p>

<p>This cycle was inaugurated with a talk entitled &#8216;<em><strong>Story seekers. Jungles, jaguars and volcanoes</strong></em>&#8216;. The writers <strong>Sabrina Duque, Joseph Zárate and Santiago Wills</strong> explained their different journalistic projects focused on <strong>social and natural themes</strong> and debated the different characteristics that make up the journalistic chronicle. All of them analysed how narrative, literary journalism can be carried out, far from immediacy. Empathy, observation, the search for details, documentation, the search for sources and creativity were some of the topics discussed.</p>

<p><strong>Sabrina Duque</strong> is a 2019 Michael Jacobs Travel Writing Fellow for her project Nicaragua: villages, lava and ashes. She is an Ecuadorian journalist, chronicler and translator. Throughout her career she has published for various publishers and newspapers in Portugal, Brazil, Italy, the United States, Ecuador and Uruguay.</p>

<p><strong>Joseph Zárate</strong> is a journalist and editor. He was deputy editor of the magazines Etiqueta Negra and Etiqueta Verde. In 2016 he received the Ortega y Gasset Award for Best Story or Investigative Journalism and in 2018 the Gabriel García Márquez Award, in the Text category. Author of &#8216;Guerras del interior&#8217;.</p>

<p><strong>Santiago Wills</strong> is a journalist. He studied Philosophy at the National University of Colombia and holds a Master&#8217;s degree in Journalism from Columbia University in New York. Winner of the Michael Jacobs Travel Writing Fellowship in 2021, for his project entitled &#8220;The Shadow of the Jaguar: Capturing the Spirit of America&#8221;.</p>

<p><strong>Arturo Larena</strong>, environmental journalist and director of <a href="https://efeverde.com/"><strong>EFE Verde</strong></a>, participated in the twentieth session of the <strong>Planeta UAB</strong> lecture series, an initiative of the Gabinete de Comunicación y Educación aimed at students of its master&#8217;s degree programs.</p>

<p>Students of the <a href="https://www.uab.cat/web/postgrado/master-en-periodismo-de-viajes-presencial-/informacion-general-1206597472083.html/param1-2812_es/">Master in Travel Journalism</a>, the <a href="https://www.uab.cat/web/postgrado/master-en-comunicacion-del-medio-ambiente/informacion-general-1206597472083.html/param1-4342_es/">Master in Environmental Communication</a> and the <a href="https://www.uab.cat/web/postgrado/master-en-comunicacion-y-educacion-online-/informacion-general-1206597472083.html/param1-2395_es/">Master in Communication and Education</a> participated in this twentieth session with Arturo Larena, entitled &#8216;EFE Verde: A global platform for news and environmental journalism&#8217;. The journalist spoke about the work carried out within the environmental news and journalism platform EFE Verde, a news division of EFE that works on different environmental issues such as renewable energies, biodiversity and sustainable development. The director of the agency analyzed the evolution of environmental information in the media and stressed the importance of keeping this journalistic specialization away from eco-fatigue, a concept that refers to fatigue due to excess of information on ecological issues. In this sense, he showed the students the routines of journalistic production in the field of environmental journalism.</p>

<p><strong>Arturo Larena</strong> is an <strong>environmental journalist</strong>. <strong>Director of EFE Verde and the area of Science and Future</strong> of the EFE Agency. He has been awarded the National Environment Award, the BBVA Foundation Award for Biodiversity Conservation and the WWF Golden Panda Award, as one of the five Spaniards who have contributed most to environmental culture from the media.</p>

<p>The <strong>Gabinete de Comunicación y de Educación</strong> is a <a href="http://gabinetecomunicacionyeducacion.com/es"><strong>consolidated group</strong></a> specialised in scientific research and dissemination, which belongs to the Department of Journalism and Communication Sciences of the <strong>UAB</strong>. Recognised by AGAUR (Agència de Gestió d&#8217;Ajuts Universitaris i de Recerca) of the Generalitat de Catalunya as a <strong>Consolidated Research Group on the basis of its trajectory, projection and development</strong>, it develops projects and research in the field of convergence between communication and education. Since its creation, it has developed initiatives aimed at integrating, with awareness and freedom, communication technologies in the so-called global or knowledge society. Under the direction of Santiago Tejedor, the Office organises different master&#8217;s degrees, such as the Master&#8217;s Degree in Travel Journalism (on-site and online), the Master&#8217;s Degree in Communication and Education, the Master&#8217;s Degree in Environmental Communication and the Master&#8217;s Degree in Political and Electoral Communication Management. The group has a wide and varied collection of publications, in the form of scientific articles, books and book chapters, and other works, which is constantly being renewed. It also has a laboratory for teaching innovation projects, transfer and new formats that are conceived and developed from a perspective based on creativity and multidisciplinary work. Every year, the Cabinet organises an academic expedition that travels the world with students from different universities and degrees. This is the Tahina-Can Expedition, which has been awarded as the best educational project in Spain. It also has the portal Tu Aventura, the educational platform infoEDU and the newsgames and science project Reporteros de la ciencia.</p>

The lecturer shared with the students the characteristics of tourism of excellence. Some of the topics discussed within this sector were the digitisation of tourism and travel and sustainability: &#8220;Developing personalised tourism experiences is a necessity in the current scenario. We have opted for creativity, excellence and attention to detail&#8221;. The expert also spoke about the democratisation of travel and the massification of places and detailed the need to rethink the Spanish tourism model.</p>

<p><strong>Germán Jiménez</strong> holds a degree in Information Sciences from the University of Navarra. Director of Turium, Tourism division of Vocento. Teacher and lecturer specialising in Tourism and Luxury. He has more than 25 years of experience in Communication Departments and Off and Online Media (Elle, GQ, Vogue, Marie Claire).</p>

<p><strong>Josep Alonso</strong>, Head of Research and Conservation at the Barcelona Zoo, took part in the eighteenth session of the <strong>Planeta UAB lecture series</strong>, an initiative of the Gabinete de Comunicación y Educación (UAB) aimed at students of its master&#8217;s degrees.</p>

<p>Students from the <a href="https://www.uab.cat/web/postgrado/master-en-periodismo-de-viajes-presencial-/informacion-general-1206597472083.html/param1-2812_es/"><strong>Master&#8217;s in Travel Journalism</strong></a>, the <a href="https://www.uab.cat/web/postgrado/master-en-comunicacion-del-medio-ambiente/informacion-general-1206597472083.html/param1-4342_es/"><strong>Master&#8217;s in Environmental Communication</strong></a> and the <a href="https://www.uab.cat/web/postgrado/master-en-comunicacion-y-educacion-online-/informacion-general-1206597472083.html/param1-2395_es/"><strong>Master&#8217;s in Communication and Education</strong></a> participated in this eighteenth session with <strong>Josep Alonso</strong>, entitled &#8216;<em><strong>Case Study: Zoos</strong></em>&#8216;. In it, he presented the biodiversity conservation and research work in which the Barcelona Zoo is involved. Alonso explained to the students the desire of this institution to become a benchmark for conservation and stressed the importance of biodiversity conservation, in reference to the decline of species. The objectives of the Barcelona Zoo Foundation include contributing to research to combat the extinction of species, promoting the dissemination of scientific practice applied to fauna, conservation among visitors to contribute to their awareness and education, and improving the conditions of the zoo itself, among others.</p>

<p><strong>Josep Alonso</strong> is <strong>Head of Research and Conservation at Barcelona Zoo</strong>. Graduate in Veterinary Science. Diploma in Advanced Studies, Marine Biology and Aquaculture. Specialised in veterinary medicine applied to marine wildlife, diagnostic imaging methodologies applied to wildlife, planning and development of wildlife conservation projects.</p>

<p><strong>Edurne Rubio</strong>, head of communication strategies at <strong><a href="https://es.greenpeace.org/es/">Greenpeace</a></strong>, and <strong>Aurora Moreno</strong>, member of the <strong><a href="https://www.carrodecombate.com/">Carro de Combate</a></strong> project, took part in the eleventh session of the Planeta UAB lecture series, an initiative of the UAB Communication and Education Office aimed at UAB master&#8217;s degree students.</p>

<p>This cycle of conferences is part of the project &#8220;<strong>Planet UAB: The journey to the other &#8211; equals in differences</strong>&#8221; organised by the Gabinete de Comunicación y Educación during the academic year 2020-2021, with the support of the Fons de Solidaritat of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, which organised a series of activities and awareness-raising actions based on the concept of the UAB campus as a &#8220;planet&#8221; and which dealt with major issues such as the culture of peace, sustainability, the environment and interculturality, among others.</p>

<p>Students from the <a href="https://www.uab.cat/web/postgrado/master-en-periodismo-de-viajes-presencial-/informacion-general-1206597472083.html/param1-2812_es/"><strong>Master&#8217;s in Travel Journalism</strong></a>, the <a href="https://www.uab.cat/web/postgrado/master-en-comunicacion-del-medio-ambiente/informacion-general-1206597472083.html/param1-4342_es/"><strong>Master&#8217;s in Environmental Communication</strong> </a>and the <a href="https://www.uab.cat/web/postgrado/master-en-comunicacion-y-educacion-online-/informacion-general-1206597472083.html/param1-2395_es/"><strong>Master&#8217;s in Communication and Education</strong></a> took part in this eleventh session with Edurne Rubio and Aurora Moreno. They learned about the work carried out by the Carro de Combate project, a group dedicated to independent journalism that investigates the origin of the products we consume, and different communication strategies of the Greenpeace group, such as the one related to macro-farms.</p>

<p><strong>Edurne Rubio</strong> has a degree in Audiovisual Communication from the University of Valencia. Since 2018 she has been part of <strong>Greenpeace</strong> as head of communication and fundraising strategies. She is currently in charge of the new strategic area People Power, with the challenge of empowering citizens in environmental protection.</p>

<p><strong>Aurora Moreno</strong> is a journalist specialising in International Relations and African issues. Since 2014 she has been part of <strong>Carro de Combate</strong>, a journalistic project that investigates the origin of the products we consume and the socio-environmental footprint they cause. Author of the book Climate Change in Africa, winner of the Casa África Essay Prize 2020.</p>

The journalist shared lessons, advice and reflections on the different moments in writing journalistic chronicles, such as the idea, the work of reporting and the writing itself. He also debated with the students about the narrative process and its different elements.</p>

<p><strong>Joseph Zárate</strong> is a journalist and editor. He was deputy editor of the magazines Etiqueta Negra and Etiqueta Verde. He received the 2016 Ortega y Gasset Award for Best Story or Investigative Journalism. He has published articles and profiles for magazines and media such as The New York Times en Español, Ballena Blanca (Spain), Mundo Dinners (Ecuador), Buensalvaje (Colombia), Internazionale (Italy), and journalism portals such as Ojo Público, Convoca, Gkillcity (Ecuador), Pointzine (Chile), International Boulevard and Univision (United States).</p>

Copyright and other legal issues in cyberspace</strong>&#8216;. The director of the Obicex centre explained to the students how copyright law works on the internet and the different ways of protecting original content, emphasising the problems presented by ICTs in the digital environment.</p>

The journalist spoke to the students about the unconventional use of the archive and showed some of his work such as &#8216;One day I saw 10,000 elephants&#8217;, &#8216;The white girl&#8217; or &#8216;The deserts of Sonora&#8217;.</p>

<p>The creator of <strong>#PeriodismoDadá</strong> highlighted the relevant role of transmedia narratives in storytelling, as they &#8220;<strong>allow us to approach other realities far beyond conventional language</strong> and pose a narrative challenge, focusing on observation, imagination and language&#8221;.</p>

<p><strong>Pere Ortín</strong> has been director of the travel culture and journalistic chronicle Altaïr Magazine for 10 years and during his professional career he has been a scriptwriter, presenter and reporter for Televisión Española (TVE) and the newspaper La Vanguardia in Barcelona. Director and producer of documentary films such as Africalls?, Le Mal d&#8217;Afrique, La niña blanca and El gran Pachinko; author of books such as Mbini. Cazadores de imágenes; screenwriter of the feature film Un día vi 10.000 elefantes; and editor in Spain of books such as Palmeras de la brisa rápida by Juan Villoro and Postales by Martín Caparrós and co-editor of the book El mejor periodismo está por venir. He has developed, directed and produced transmedia and interactive projects such as Los Desiertos de Sonora.</p>

<p>Students of the <a href="https://www.uab.cat/web/postgrado/master-en-periodismo-de-viajes-presencial-/informacion-general-1206597472083.html/param1-2812_es/"><strong>Master in Travel Journalism</strong></a>, the <a href="https://www.uab.cat/web/postgrado/master-en-comunicacion-del-medio-ambiente/informacion-general-1206597472083.html/param1-4342_es/"><strong>Master in Environmental Communication</strong></a> and the <a href="https://www.uab.cat/web/postgrado/master-en-comunicacion-y-educacion-online-/informacion-general-1206597472083.html/param1-2395_es/"><strong>Master in Communication and Education</strong></a> participated in this seventh session with Aníbal Bueno, in which the scientist and photojournalist reflected on the link between photography and anthropology, showing some of his work. The students were also able to learn first-hand about his work in documenting and approaching different cultures, as well as his role in the travel agency he owns: Last Places.</p>

<p>Aníbal Bueno is a <strong>scientist and professional photographe</strong>r. He has travelled more than 70 countries in search of the human essence. Aníbal has specialised in reporting on the lifestyles of the last minority ethnic groups on the planet, a discourse that he disseminates through his networks, photographic work, talks, courses and editorial publications, which he produces as he travels the world. He has received several awards for his photography, such as the award for best adventure travel photography at the Adventure Travel show in 2018 or the medal of the Spanish Confederation of Photography. He is the author of the book Forgotten Cultures (Editorial UOC, 2020) and co-author of the book Last Tribes of Angola (Editorial ExLibric, 2021).</p>

<p><strong>Carmen Ávalos</strong> holds a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Cambridge and a degree in Anthropology from the University of Barcelona. She studied filmmaking in Paris between 1995 and 1999 (Ateliers Varan, Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes, Sorbonne). She has worked as a filmmaker in different media such as TVE (Gran Angular Programme), BTV (Noches temáticas) or La Cinquème (France).</p>
