The Museum of Natural Sciences of Barcelona, protagonist of the UAB Planet Cycle

Anna Omedes , director of the Museum of Natural Sciences of Barcelona, took part in the second session of the Planeta UAB lecture series, an initiative of the Gabinete de Comunicación y Educación aimed at students of its master’s degrees, with the case study of the Museum of Natural Sciences of Barcelona.

This cycle of conferences is part of the project “Planet UAB: The journey to the other – equals in differences” organised by the Gabinete de Comunicación y Educación during the academic year 2020-2021, with the support of the Solidarity Fund of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, which organised a series of activities and awareness-raising actions based on the concept of the UAB campus as a “planet” and which dealt with major issues such as the culture of peace, sustainability, the environment and interculturality, among others.

Students of the Master in Travel Journalism, the Master in Environmental Communication and the Master in Communication and Education participated in this second session with Anna Omedes. The biologist presented the case study of the Museum of Natural Sciences of Barcelona, explaining the different phases that the museum has gone through, its organisation, the activities they carry out and the work of the organisation in bringing heritage closer to the public. In this way, the students will be able to learn first-hand about the philosophy and the different protocols of operation of a museum.

Anna Omedes holds a degree in Biology from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and a PhD in Animal Behaviour from the University College of Wales in the UK. She is the author of articles and book chapters and speaker at courses and conferences on museology, museography, science communication and bioacoustics. Since 2017 she is President of the Spanish Association of Museums and Science and Technology Centres of Spain. From 2016 to 2020 she was Vice-President of Ecsite (European Network of Science Centres and Museums). She is a member of the Board of the Catalan Council for Scientific Communication (C4), of the Scientific Council of Universcience de Paris, of the Advisory Board of the Natural and Cultural Heritage Campus of the University of Girona (UdG), of the Social Council of the Institute of Marine Sciences (ICS-ICM), of the International Committee of the Global Biological Corridor,
